This Board consists of five members, with no more than 3 of the same political party. This five-year appointment is recommended by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the Legislative Council.

The Hamden Public Library, the community's information center, provides a variety of library resources, access to innovative technology, and a knowledgeable staff to improve the quality of life and meet the informational, educational, economic, and cultural interests of the entire Hamden community. The Library Board oversees the Town's library system that includes the Miller Memorial Central Library and two branches: the Whitneyville Branch and the Louise A. Brundage Community Branch Library.
Goals for the Future
The Library Board's goals include:
Migration of its integrated library system to Libraries Online, Inc (LION), a consortium of 27 area libraries, in 2014
A new phone system
Wi-Fi access at the two branches
An upgrade in printing and copying services
The addition of faxing and scanning services is planned
An enlargement of the Children's Room is underway, and a plan to redesign the entire Miller Library space is also underway. Other goals are set out in the Library's Strategic Plan for 2013 to 2015.
