This commission consists of seven members, with no more than four of the same political party. This three-year appointment is recommended by the Mayor, and subject to Legislative Council approval.

Mission Statement

Dedication to improving recreational activities for all Hamden residents at all ages with commitment to the Town of Hamden is the Park and Recreation Commissions central mission. The Commission consists of seven commissioners which assemble monthly with the Recreation Director for an in-depth report on the work done or updates on progress at recreational sites and complaints. In addition, the Commission reviews all recommendations, fees for various programs, and updates on all sports programs.

Goals for the Future

This year the Commission will look to contact Elderly Services for their assistance in reaching out to our senior citizens with the hopes of creating more activities and events for them.

The long term goals would be more open public swimming, increase public ice skating, and a Parks and Recreation Community Center that would give the recreation department a chance to create more activities.
