Veterans Commission to Unveil Addition to Veterans Memorial Monument

1:00pm, Nov 16th, 2019 at Hamden Middle School

Hamden – Mayor Curt Leng, Town Clerk Vera Morrison, and the Hamden Veterans Commission invite members of the public to the unveiling of a brass plaque to be installed at the Hamden Veterans Memorial Monument, located at the Hamden Middle School (2623 Dixwell Avenue). This plaque will be the 6th addition of names to the Hamden Veterans Memorial since its initial installation in 1991. These 101 names represent honorably discharged Hamden veterans who served in the military, and it is our way of saying thank you for their service to their country.

The Town of Hamden thanks Abner Oakes, Chairman of the Hamden Veterans Commission, who helped to coordinate the ordering of the plaque with the names as compiled by Susan Dercole of the Hamden Town Clerk’s Office. Thanks also o to Joh Nolan of Nolan Monument Company. We also appreciate the beautification efforts of the Hamden Public Works Department, and personally acknowledge Paul Coleman, Joseph Colello, and Lynn Baumgartner.

Commenting, Mayor Curt Balzano Leng said, “I am very thankful to our Veterans Commission for their fine and extensive work on this project, and for continuing to ensure that Hamden’s veterans are recognized. The Veterans Memorial Monument has grown to be a centerpiece of remembrance in Hamden, a solemn place to reflect on the sacrifices of the brave service-men and women of our Nation. I thank the Veterans Commission, the Town staff who assisted in this effort, and the many veterans of Hamden for their service.”
