2006-2007 Accomplishments

 - Training – the Department over 20,000 hours of training. All Officers in the Department participate in the delivery of sessions. These sessions include Medical, Fire Suppression, Hazardous Material and Technical Rescue Training.

 
 - FEMA's through the competitive Assistance to Firefighter's Grant awarded the the HFD with funding for narrow banding radio compliance. This is a mandatory FCC requirement for all Fire Departments. All mobile and portable radios will be replaced within the Department anong with upgrades to communications equipment.

 
 - The Department purchased a new 100 ft Smeal aerial platform truck through Capital funding. This vehicle replaces a 1991 Pierce aerial platform.

 
 - Construction of a new communications tower was completed and is fully operational. The Tower was funded by a Homeland Security grant and the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) funds secured by the Fire Department.

 - Hamden Firefighters delivered 102 public education classes to 1500 grade School children. Topics included use of 911 in an emergency and fire safety.

 
 - Hamden Paramedics assisted the Town’s private ambulance service approximately 40 times per month providing advanced life support while riding in the ambulance to local hospitals. This is an exceptional service provided by the Hamden Fire Department which is compensated for through a bundle billing agreement with the Town’s private ambulance service.

 - The Fire Marshal’s office conducted approximately 1,300 life safety code inspections.

 
 - As part of the renovation project of Memorial Town Hall, Station # 4, located at 2372 Whitney Ave., has been totally modernized but still provides an historic look.  Living space for Firefighters has been added. Reconfiguration of service areas are near completion. Station 4 is one of the busiest fire stations in town. It's strategic location provides excellent response times to our citizens.  

 
 - Land for the new Fire Headquarters building has been procured and is moving forward. This building will house all fire department administrative offices. The building will replace our Circular Avenue station and will also house our Tower Truck, Battalion Chief and Training Division.
