Internships

The Hamden Police Department offers internships to college students on an ongoing basis, but only has availability for two college students, enrolled in a Law Enforcement field of study, per semester.  Benefits of an internship include college credit for work experience and training, and the satisfaction in giving back to the community. Interns help the Department carry out many vital and support functions and also help develop closer links to the communities of Hamden.

Interns may be assigned to various divisions or units in the Department based on their interests and the amount of work available. They may do a variety of jobs including:

  • Data entry
  • Computer programming
  • Administrative Assistance
  • Patrol ride-alongs

Interns are asked to work a set number of hours per week based on the requirements of their class. Hours are flexible, enabling students to put in their hours around their class schedule.
