07/15/08 - Retirement of Sergeant Jennifer Bache

   Sgt. Jennifer Bache
Sergeant Jennifer Bache has retired from the Hamden Police
Department after serving for 13 years. Sgt. Bache's most recent
assignment was in the Administration Division working primarily
on State and Federal Grants. She previously served for many
yearsas a Patrol Officer. She was promoted to Sergeant in
May 2006. She was the recipient of several Departmental
Commendations and received the MADD Award in 1999.

06/26/08 - DUI Roadblocks

As part of a continuing effort to combat Drunk Driving the Hamden Police Department in
conjuction with a State of Connecticut DOT Grant,
will be setting up DUI Checkpoints on
Thursday, 07/03/08, Friday, 07/04/08 and Saturday, 07/05/08, from 9pm - 3am.
The
checkpoints will be conducted on Dixwell Avenue, Whitney Avenue, Evergreen Avenue,
Skiff St.,
and Putnam Avenue.
 

04/01/08 - Opening of Newhall Substation
 
"The Hamden Police Department and Mayor Craig B. Henrici are pleased to announce the opening of the Newhall Community Substation located at the Michael J. Whelan Activity Center, 
550 Newhall Street.  The opening of this important outreach facility is the result of a collaborative effort by Mayor Henrici and his staff, the Police Department, Public Works Department, Economic and Community Development Department and Purchasing Department. The substation, which opened this month, will provide a permanent police presence in the Newhall neighborhood and act as a "drop in" and "resource center" location for our Police Officers and community stakeholders. Community activity events, Civic Association and Block
Watch meetings are just some of the potential uses for the substation where crime prevention and other law enforcement topics can be discussed.Officers on all shifts can utilize the substation for investigative interviews, to meet citizens on complaints who live in the neighborhood, to complete follow-up reports and paperwork and for meal breaks.  The Department Bicycle Unit will use the substation as a deployment point during appropriate weather conditions for bicycle patrol in the Newhall and surrounding neighborhoods.  Community Liaison Unit Officer Ronald Glifort is assigned to the substation on Monday and Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and on Wednesday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  The Department is expecting to schedule a grand opening event for the substation in the near future."

Det. Angelo DeLieto

Chief Thomas J. Wydra is pleased to announce that Officer Angelo DeLieto has been promoted to the
rank of Detective effective on 03/27/08. Detective DeLieto has been assigned to the Detective
Division on the 4-12 evening shift. Detective DeLieto is a 7 year veteran of this Department and was
previously assigned to the Street Interdiction Team.

Sgt. Colin Kearns

Chief Thomas J. Wydra is pleased to announce that Detective Colin Kearns has been promoted to the
rank of Sergeant effective on 03/13/08. Sgt. Kearns has been assigned as a supervisor in the Detective
Division on the 4-12 evening shift. Sgt. Kearns is a 6 year veteran of this Department after serving for
4 years with the Milford Police Department.

03/01/08
Lieutenant Michael McNeil has been transferred from the Patrol Division to the Ethics & Integrity Division.
He replaces Lieutenant Frank McDermott who has been transferred to the Patrol Division where he
will be the Shift Commander for the 4-12 evening shift.
