Deputy Chief John Cappiello

Deputy Chief John Cappiello began his Law Enforcement career
on February 21, 1984. He graduated from the Connecticut
Police Academy Session #177 in May 1984.

He worked as a Patrol Officer until 1985 when he was transferred to the
Street Crime Unit and assigned as an Investigator.

In 1989 he was re-assigned to the Patrol Division.

In August 1991 he was assigned the Statewide Narcotics Task
Force as an Investigator and undercover narcotics officer.

In October 1991 he was promoted to Detective and remained in the
Statewide Narcotics Task Force.

In October 1992 he was transferred to the Detective Division where
he worked in General Investigations.

In March 1999 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the
Patrol Division as a supervisor.

In April 2002 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol
Division as a shift commander.

In September 2003 he was transferred to the Investigative Services
Division where he was 2nd in command of the division.

On July 7, 2006 he was appointed Deputy Police Chief by
Mayor Craig Henrici. He was assigned as the commanding officer
of the Administrative Services Division.  

Deputy Chief Cappiello is the recipient of 17 Commendations, 10 Letters
of Recognition, and 6 Unit Citations. He served on the Special Response
Team (SWAT) from 1987-2006. He is a 1981 graduate of Hamden High
School.
