Q: Do you provide services for anyone who does not live in Hamden?
A:
Our programs are open to the Community at large, but cash, food and fuel assistance is reserved for Hamden residents.

Q: Can you help me with fuel assistance?
A:
The Keefe Center can provide fuel assistance to persons up to 59 years of age. Income documentation is required. Once someone is 60 years of age and over, please call Elderly Services at 287-2547 for fuel assistance.

Q: Does the Keefe Center provide food assistance?
A:
Yes, we have a food bank available for those that qualify. Hamden Food Bank is open to Hamden residents. Call 562-5129 for eligibility. You will be required to provide proof of residency and family size. We do not provide food stamps. For a food stamps application contact the Department of Social Services at 974-8414.

Q: Does the Keefe Center provide food for pets?
A:
Those eligible to get food for their family can also receive food for their cat or dog.

Q: How do I register for food for Thanksgiving and Christmas?
A:
You must call 562-5129. Documentation of residency and family members is required.

Q: What if I get an eviction notice?
A:
If you live in Hamden, you may call the Keefe Center at 562-5129 to see if there is an eviction pending.

Q: Do you help with rental assistance?
A:
When funding is available, we can provide one-month rent to families who meet the program guidelines. Call 562-5129.

Q: Do you have a listing of apartment rentals?
A:
No, but we will provide referrals on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Do you provide Welfare Services?
A:
No. Call the Department of Social Services at 974-8414 for families with children and SAGA at 867-8064 for single adults.

Q: Do you provide medical, mental health or alcohol and drug counseling?
A:
No, but we will assist you in accessing the appropriate services based on your needs.

Q: Do you provide scholarships?
A:
We provide scholarships for Hamden children to attend Hamden summer camp programs. You must provide income documentation to qualify.

Q: Do you provide health care?
A:
No, but we offer flu shots to the community and WIC.

Q: Do you offer job training?
A:
We offer employment programs and welfare to work training including resume writing and computer skills. Help searching the job market is also available. Services are available at the Keefe Center and at the Job Resource Center, which is located on the third floor of the Hamden Government Center.

Q: What is the Job Resource Center?
A:
The Job Resource Center counselor works with clients one-on-one to build their resumes, strengthen interviewing skills, and search job markets. The Job Resource Center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:30 to 4:30pm, and located at the Hamden Government Center. To make an appointment call Sue Hutchinson at 287-2647.

Q: Is the Keefe Center open on the weekends?
A:
No, the Keefe Center is closed during the weekends.

Q: What types of events does the Keefe Center offer?
A:
The Keefe Center offers family based events such as Family Movie Night and PACK programs (Parent and Communities For Kids).

Q: Can local groups use the Keefe Center?
A: People in the community are welcome to use the facility, however all events must be open to the public.
