TOWN OF HAMDEN
BULK-WASTE DISPOSAL

Effective July 1, 2006, the Town of Hamden changed its bulk trash pick-up policy. Residents will be allowed to put out bulk trash during the months of April and October of each year. The bulk trash pick-up policy was modified in an attempt to improve services to Town residents resulting in, if properly followed, a cleaner appearance for our Town. Your cooperation in following these guidelines will benefit us all with a cleaner Hamden!

GENERAL INFORMATION

Residents may put bulk trash in front of their homes during the entire month of April (April 1st-30th) and during the entire month of October (October 1st-31st).

No phone calls or appointments are necessary.

This new policy will leave the Town of Hamden looking cleaner the remaining 10 months of the year. All that great recycling that occurs results in a reduction of the amount of bulk trash collected thereby reducing pollution, conserving energy and saving natural resources.

This service is not provided for wholesale clean out of houses or dwelling units.

Property owners must rent a dumpster whenever a permit for work is taken.

Landlords are responsible for disposal of their tenant’s bulk trash.

  DO's AND DON'Ts:

  • Do not put out items that are suitable for donation to local charities such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Donation of  may be tax deductible.

  • Do not allow bulk trash items to block any portion of the sidewalk or street. Hamden Police can issue a ticket for this violation.
  • Do not put out cardboard boxes, whether empty or containing other items. Cardboard must be recycled. Flatten cardboard boxes, bundle them with twine and leave them out for the regular recycling pick-up. Use clear plastic bags to contain smaller, loose items for bulk trash pick-up.
  • Do not put out unacceptable items. If unacceptable items are placed at the curb either independently or mixed with acceptable items, the entire pile may be tagged with an orange violation sticker and the entire collection suspended until the unacceptable items are removed.
