PAYMENT INFORMATION
Tax bills are mailed once a year in late June (with the exception of supplemental motor vehicle bills that are mailed in December for payment in January). The bill has three parts. If a bill is under $250.00 it is due in full July 1st. If it is over $250.00, one half is due July 1st and the second half is due January 1st. Bring in or mail all three parts in July, two will be returned to you, one receipted and the other for your January payment. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope with all payments requiring a receipt.
For your convenience there is a PAYMENT DROP BOX in the lobby before the hallway to the Tax Office. Payments by check for current bills only are accepted in this box.
All tax payments not made within one month of the due date are considered delinquent (After August 1st or February 1st) and subject to interest of 1 ½ % per month from the original due date. There is a return check fee of $20.00.
If past due payments are owing for motor vehicle taxes and a release for registration is needed, payment must be made by cash, certified check or money order. Please call (203) 287-7140 for updated interest.
If you have an escrow account and the bill was sent to you, please forward the bill to your bank. If you did not receive a bill and should have, please call us for a duplicate copy. Failure to receive a bill does not invalidate the tax or interest charges.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO PAY BY MAIL. Your check will be your receipt. If an additional receipt is desired, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope along with all copies of your bill.
