Hunting, Trapping & Sport Fishing Licenses

Available at the Town Clerk's Office

Sport licenses are available throughout the year in the Town Clerk's office.  They are also available locally in Wal-mart, an authorized agent (2300 Dixwell Ave. Hamden. Tel: 230-0285) during the evenings and on the weekends.

Hunting and Fishing licenses are required for anyone 16 years of age or older. In order to obtain a hunting, combination fishing/hunting or trapping license, you must present either a Department of Environmental Protection Firearms safety certificate or a previous Connecticut resident hunting, combination fishing/hunting or trapping license which is less than five years old.

Licenses are issued on a calendar year basis and expire on December 31st, except permanent licenses issued to those who are 65 years of age or older.  Also Pheasant Tags are valid through early January.  These licenses are issued in accordance with appropriate state regulations.

Hunting and fishing guides are available at time of license purchase.

Applications for resident and non-resident firearms deer hunting, muzzleloader deer hunting, archery deer and small game hunting, turkey firearms or archery hunting are available from the Town Clerk. The applications must be sent to the DEP, 79 Elm St., Hartford, CT 06106 with the appropriate fee:

All licenses expire on December 31 of the year issued, except permanent licenses issued to those 65 years of age or over, and pheasant tags and migratory bird stamps which are valid through early the following year.

The town clerk retains $1.00 for each license sold and for each HIP permit, and .50 for each pheasant stamp and migratory bird stamp sold.

*Any active, full-time member of the armed forces may be issued a fishing and/or small game firearms license for the resident fee. Credentials indicating active full-time membership or separation subsequent to the issuance of the license and prior to its expiration date must be carried while fishing or hunting.

** Issuance of a free license to the blind or mentally retarded requires proof of disability in the form of a certificate provided by any person licensed to practice medicine in this state.

*** Any resident with the loss of a limb or the loss of the use of a limb and a doctor's certificate may be issued a free license. Qualified nonresidents who are residents of states which allow the same privileges are also eligible.
