     The Hamden Youth Services Bureau was established in 1975 as a municipal department of the Town of Hamden.  The Hamden Youth Services Bureau seeks to improve the quality of life for the children, youth and families of Hamden by providing a variety of programs and services.  The Bureau provides a comprehensive, coordinated system of services consisting of educational, social and recreational community-based programs for the children, youth and families of Hamden.  The Youth Services Bureau provides programs in the areas of Youth Employment, Year-Round Childcare Programs for pre-k through sixth grade, Substance Abuse Prevention, Positive Youth Development, Delinquency Prevention, Youth Recreation, Information and Referral, Parent Education, Arts and Cultural events, Youth Theatre Camp, Youth Enrichment activities, Community Teen Activities and Seasonal events and activities.  Programs and activities are provided at the main offices at the Keefe Community Center, the program areas at the Newhall Community Center, in all Hamden schools and at various community sites.

    The staff of the Youth Services Bureau consists of one full-time Youth Services Bureau Coordinator, an Outreach Counselor, a Clerk-Typist; and one part-time Program Assistant.  The Day Care staff is comprised of a Childcare Director, Childcare Head Teacher, Childcare Aides, Student Interns and volunteers.  The Hamden Youth Center staff is comprised of one part-time Program Director and part-time program aides.  The Hamden Boxing Program consists of a part-time Boxing Instructor/Trainer and Assistant Boxing Instructor/Trainer.
