ESL CASE WORKER

Starting Salary: $25.00 per hour/19.5 hours/week – State of CT Residency – Grant Durational – This is a Non-Civil Service position without benefits.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:The Case Worker is responsible for providing for the needs of English as a Second Language program participants in welfare to work programs through the provision of direct services and by linking families to services.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Performs under the direct supervision of the Community Services designee.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Completes program participant intakes, creates and implements individualized development plan, develops and maintains network of services and supports, tracks and monitors client progress, attitude and patterns of behavior, refers participants to community resources as appropiate. Compiles and maintains clients files and prepares reports. Reviews case plans and performs follow-up to determine status and/or success of participant. Handles only other duties as required by supervisor.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

BILINGUAL SPANISH REQUIRED.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to relate effectively and fairly with supervisors and other employees, clients and the general public, basic knowledge of needs assessment; program planning and evaluation techniques, clerical and computer aptitude and skills necessary to perform routine clerical duties.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:An Associates or Bachelor's Degree (preferably social services or related field), and experience with group or individual case management, or a minimum of two (2) years responsible experience in a Social Service position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Must retain a valid CT Drivers License.

NOTE:   This position is funded by a grant from the Regional Workforce Development Board. A lack of grant funding will result in the elimination of this position.

CONNECTICUT CERTIFIED FIRE FIGHTER/ PARAMEDIC

Requirements for all applicants applying for certified Fire Fighter/Paramedic
with the Town of Hamden

1.) Certification:  Applicants must have successfully completed the Connecticut Fire Academy's fire recruit training class within the last five years and be a certified Firefighter in the State of Connecticut. A copy of your recruit training class certification must accompany your application for employment. Applicants must possess a current, valid NREMT Paramedic certification card and maintain certification to remain a Paramedic in the Department. As a condition of employment, applicants must maintain NREMT Paramedic certification license and participate in the capacity of a Paramedic for a minimum of six years from their start date of employment with the Town of Hamden Fire Department. New Haven Sponsor Hospital Medical Control is desirable.

2.) Education/Training:  Applicants must possess a High School Diploma and all applicants must possess a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification by the State of Connecticut at the time of application. A copy of both must accompany your application for employment.

3.) Age:  Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application to be eligible.

4.) Physical Examination:  Applicants must posses a current CPAT physical agility certification (CPAT certifications are valid for two years from the time of successful completion) at the time of application to be eligible for employment OR be presently employed full-time by a career fire department with a minimum of two (2) years of continuous service with that department, at time of application.

5.) Residency:  Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and must be a resident of the State of Connecticut at the time of application.

6.) License:  Applicants must possess a valid Connecticut driver's license at the time of application.

7.) Drug Testing:  Applicants shall be required to submit to and successfully pass a drug and alcohol test as part of their pre-employment medical examination.

8.) Non-Smoker:  Applicants must be non-smokers at the time of application and remain non-smokers as a condition of employment with the Town.

9.) Character Requirements:  Applicants must meet the highest legal and ethical standards. No applicants will be accepted with any drug related conviction, felony conviction, conviction for any Class A or Class B misdemeanor or any conviction for domestic violence. Applicants will undergo a rigorous background investigation before any offer of employment is made. An applicant may be disqualified for poor employment history, recent use of illegal drugs or previously undetected criminal activity. Any omission, falsification, fabrication or misleading statement will automatically result in disqualification from further consideration.

10.) Background Investigation:  A thorough background and character investigation will be conducted for the specific purpose of obtaining pertinent data for the Hamden Fire Department to consider in determining suitability for employment as a Firefighter. Eligible applicants will be requested to authorize a release of personal information including, but not limited to, educational institutions, medical history, employment history, legal complaints, arrests or convictions and motor vehicle history.

General Statement of Duties: 

Firefighter/Paramedics are responsible for performing fire suppression, fire prevention, and rescue work; work is performed in accordance with departmental procedures and specific instruction; work requires performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions; work may involve extreme exertion for usually short periods of time under such handicaps as smoke, heat, and cramped surroundings; work involves inspecting and maintaining firefighting equipment and quarters, and performing supervised training. Over 70% of the calls which the Hamden Department of Fire & Emergency Services involves both BLS and ALS emergency medical service. All on-duty personnel are required to respond to emergency medical calls regardless of their assignment.

Supervision Received:

Works under immediate supervision of a superior in the Fire Department who issue instructions and reviews work for conformance to orders and instructions.

Essential Job Duties:

Responds to alarms; protects exposures; ventilates fire-involved structures; forcibly enter buildings at fire scene; uses ladders; applies water and extinguishing agents; performs rescues; conducts overhaul and salvage operations; maintains fire service apparatus and equipment; maintains station house; participates in fire service training; performs both BLS and ALS emergency medical care; inspects structures; engages in fire prevention; and mans a watch desk.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to follow written and oral instructions; mechanical comprehension and aptitude; ability to discern spatial relationships; mathematical ability; ability to interpret numerical tables; ability to work in accord with others; physical strength and agility necessary to perform the required work.

CT CERTIFIED FIRE FIGHTER/PARAMEDIC
TOWN OF HAMDEN, CT

The Town of Hamden announces the recruitment for the Position of CT Certified Fire Fighter/Paramedic.  Applicants must have successfully completed the CT Fire Academy's fire recruit training class within the last (5) five years and be a Certified Fire Fighter in the State of Connecticut.  Applicants must also possess a current NREMT Paramedic Certification Card at the time of application.

A non-refundable $20 application fee is required at the time your application is submitted.  Applications received without the application fee will not be accepted for consideration. Bachelor of Science Degree in related field, one (1) year relevant clinical exp. In the past (3) yrs, such as pediatric, ambulatory, public health or school nursing. Licensed registered Nurse in Ct. CPR Certification or proof of enrollment in a CPR Course within (3) months of application.
