Hamden Arts Commission in partnership with Quinnipiac University presents its 2008 free summer concert series. The series will include concerts on five consecutive Fridays at Town Center Park at Meadowbrook Park, 2761 Dixwell Avenue. Concerts begin at 7:30 pm. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and pack a picnic. This year’s exciting lineup is as follows:

 

Friday, July 11: Los Lobos

With an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades, Los Lobos is still creating new sounds and touring continuously, playing their unique blend of Tex-Mex, blues, country, ballads, folk and rock. The 2001 recipient of the Billboard Century Award, they are also known for their #1 hit, La Bamba (the soundtrack to the movie of the same name), and another top hit, Come On, Let’s Go.

Friday, July 18: The Fifth Dimension

A concert of all top hits by the famous group (inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002). The Fifth Dimension became popular in the 1960s and 1970s with such hits as Up, Up and Away, Stoned Soul Picnic, Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, Wedding Bell Blues, Go Where You Wanna Go, One Less Bell to Answer, and I Didn’t Get to Sleep at All, among others.

Friday, July 25: Starship with Mickey Thomas

Mickey Thomas was the soaring voice of Jefferson Starship starting in 1979 with the #1 hit, Jane. Then with the renamed Starship throughout the 80s and 90s, his powerful vocals are heard on such hits as We Built This City, No Way Out, Sara, the Oscar-nominated Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now, It’s Not Over Till It’s Over, Fooled Around and Fell in Love, and many more.

Friday, August 1: Temptation Review with Dennis Edwards

One of two groups allowed to use the Temptations’ name, this one features

singer Dennis Edwards, the Temptations since 1968, who has 14 gold albums, five Grammy’s, and been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The multi-award winning Motown group will perform a concert of top hits, including My Girl, Ain’t Too Proud to Beg, Papa Was a Rolling Stone and Just My Imagination.
