The Mt. Carmel Opticians has moved from their long time home in the Mt. Carmel section of Hamden to an entirely new section of town. The move to 2301 State Street in the log cabin plaza created an “Idyllic setting to do business” said owner Edward Beaudette. Mr. Beaudette purchased the log cabin on the site with the intent of opening his business in the front and leasing the unused space in the back of the building. Foiled Again, specialty salon, owned by Brett Goldman, now occupies this space. On June 22, Mayor Amento, along with the Economic and Community Development Department celebrated the anniversary of the new location.

Mt. Carmel Opticians is a full service optician equipped with an on-site lab for manufacturing and repairing eyewear. Mt. Carmel Opticians offers a complete line of standard and designer eyewear and sunglasses and specializes in hard to fit contact lenses including astigmatic and bifocal designs. Mr. Beaudette is a fully licensed optician with over 28 years experience in the field. In 1987 the Connecticut Opticians Association honored him as Optician of the Year. He was formerly on the faculty of the opticians program at Middlesex Community College and has lectured before national audiences on various optical topics. “I seem to be the one chosen to figure out why eyeglasses and contacts are causing problems. I do a lot of ‘detective work’ and usually come up with the correct solution,” says Mr. Beaudette. To make an appointment, call 288-4905.

Foiled Again Hair Salon is owned by Brett Goldman formerly of Panache Salon in Orange. Mr. Goldman has over 24 years of experience in the field and specializes in the creation of foil high lights, low lights, and corrective color techniques. His associate, Fran Null, formerly of Hair Together in Hamden, with over 30 years of experiences is available for blow styles, sets and perms, traditional cuts, and basic coloring. Together, they can service all your hair care needs. Foiled Again offers senior citizen discounts and can be reached for appointments at 287-1887. “Experience the best for less” says Mr. Goldman. You wont be disappointed.

The opening of these businesses represents a continued growth in the State Street, East Ridge neighborhood. “Businesses that provide these basic community needs are the bedrock of long term neighborhood stability. This kind of investment shows the neighborhood is back on the rise,” stated Dale Kroop, Director of the Hamden Economic and Community Development Department.

Funding for this project was provided through the Connecticut Community Investment Corporation (CTCIC), a SBA 504 lender. CTCIC provided construction and permanent financing. CTCIC is located at 100 Crown St. New Haven CT 06510. “With the help of the Town of Hamden and Webster Bank we were able to assist Mt. Carmel Opticians with the purchase and renovation of 2301 State Street and fulfill Ed Beaudette’s desire to stay in Hamden and invest in the Town’s future.” Said Mark Cousineau, Executive Director of the CTCIC.
