A Piece of Paradise to Open on Dixwell On the corner of Mather Street at 1717 Dixwell Avenue a slice of Paradise will be under construction in the fall of 2005. The building formerly know as the Rite Aid Building or the National Filter Media Building will be under renovation in anticipation of the new Paradise Village Market. The 22,000 sq. ft. site is going to be home to a gourmet food venue similar to Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall in Boston. It is going to include numerous food kiosks and food retail sales displays and demonstrations along with some anchoring restaurants. The facility will also include public meeting areas and weekly/monthly entertainment. This site is under development by Hamden Pond LLC out of Belle Harbor, New York. Hamden Pond, LLC will invest nearly $1 million dollars into the site for the various stages of remodeling, which will include new infrastructure, skylights, brick restoration and numerous facade improvements. Under the business incentive program the Town of Hamden has assisted Hamden Pond with building permit waivers and tax abatements over a 3-year period.
