The Highwood Square Artist Housing Development encompasses 27 affordable artist housing units and 14,000 square feet of commercial space in a campus like setting adjacent to the scenic Farmington Canal Trail. The residential units will be a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom market rate and affordable units designed in a manner and scale sensitive to the surrounding community. Green materials, decorative awnings, distinctive color schemes and pedestrian lighting will make the site a pleasant destination place with the feel of a true town center. The event culminates nearly seven years of planning by Town officials.

The “Start of the Arts” Ceremony was held to raise awareness about the development and to celebrate the start of the site preparation work that will transform the now vacant lot into a construction site in the months to come. Visitors and guests toured the site, seeing the layout of the building plan and view the architectural designs. The project is expected to take 12-18 months to complete and will not only generate tax revenue and jobs but will eliminate the blighted conditions of five properties and begin the transformation of the Highwood Community.
