New Walgreens Kicks Off Significant Whitney Avenue DevelopmentIn late 2005 there will be one of two new projects on the corner of Lincoln and Whitney Ave, at the location of the long vacant Eckblade Auto site. There will be a new 15,000 S. Ft., drive thru, full service Walgreen’s Pharmacy. Along with this new development comes a new State approved traffic light that links the new Walgreen’s and the existing Mt. Carmel Post Office. On June 8, Mayor Carl Amento, Director Dale Kroop, Stanley Glanz Konover/Aberdeene Development, United Illuminating, and members of the development team held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site.
New Dunkin Donuts Drive Thru…
A new Dunkin Donuts Drive Thru is being constructed less than a ¼ mile down the road from the site of the new Walgreens Pharmacy, at the location of the former Pantelenas Appliance store. The new store is expected to be open by the end of 2005. Clarion Hotel Construction Progresses…The Clarion Hotel progress is continuing the new look for the Whitney Ave. corridor, on the site of the former Howard Johnson Hotel. Michael Schaeffer owner of the Schaeffer Hotel Group is undertaking this new development. The Schaeffer Hotel Group is best known for the Center Point Hotel in New Haven. The renovation consists of 15 new rooms making a total of 110 rooms, a conference center, and pool/fitness facilities. These additions would make the Clarion the only true hotel in all of Hamden. “We are committed to providing an outstanding hotel for the Town of Hamden, while making the Clarion one of the most exciting hotels in the greater New Haven region. The plans are progressing at an exciting pace, but final completion is still a few months off,” says owner of Schaeffer Hotel Group, Michael Schaeffer. This project is bringing around $2.5 million of new investment into the town and is projected to be completed in the fall. The total investment for these three projects will total over $5,000,000. This pleases Town officials. “I am so very happy to see this quality development continue in our commercial corridors, meeting Hamden residents needs,” stated Mayor Carl Amento.
