Hamden Welcomes Taste of Jamaica Restaurant to Dixwell Avenue

Taste of Jamaica, Connecticut’s first upscale Jamaican restaurant, opened in Hamden on May 19th at 1012-1014 Dixwell Avenue. Mayor Craig Henrici joined Elizabeth and Glenn Campbell, the owners of the newly opened restaurant, at the grand opening.

After living in Hamden for nine years, Elizabeth and Glenn Campbell created their unique business in hopes to bring their Jamaican heritage to the Hamden community. The couple has proven to be a noteworthy team as Glen Campbell works as the head chef of the restaurant and Elizabeth Campbell works as the executive manager.

Taste of Jamaica serves original and authentic Jamaican cuisine such as jerk chicken and pork with a choice of hot, medium or sweet sauce. The distinctive dining experience is a way for Hamden residents to enjoy the authentic taste of Jamaican food which involves rubbing a special mix of herbs and spices into the meat and grilling it for several hours, allowing the rub to permeate the meat and retain natural juices.

Taste of Jamaica has 17 employees and offers takeout and delivery for its customers. Next month beer and wine should be added to the menu. Taste of Jamaica also offers catering services and can be reached for orders at (203) 752-09818 or at www.tojj.net (the website should be updated in the next 30 days).

Store hours for Taste of Jamaica are Tuesday-Thursday from 11:30am-3:30pm (lunch) and 5:30pm-9:30pm (dinner). Friday and Saturday’s schedule is 11:30am-3:30pm (lunch) and 5pm-10:30pm (dinner).
