Electronic Specialties Purchasing Building and Expands in Hamden
The Town of Hamden helped to celebrate another business expansion on Thursday, January 29. Attending this event at 19 Hamden Park drive was Mayor Carl J. Amento and Director of Economic and Community Development, Dale Kroop. Also in attendance were the Principles of Electronic Specialties of CT, Will Kovacs and Duc Nguyen, as well as members of the Hamden Economic Development Commission.
When Will Kovacs and Duc Nguyen started Electronic Specialties of CT, Inc, in 1991, they leased 3,000 square feet of a 10,000 square foot building in the Hamden Business Park, located off Dixwell Avenue. At the time, that was plenty of space for the two of them and one employee.
Over the next ten years, their contract printed circuit board assembly business had grown to 30 employees and they leased 8,500 square feet of that same building.

There was no more room left. The owners considered several new opportunities, most in surrounding Towns. With business incentives offered by the Town of Hamden, they made the most logical move ? across the street.
In the end the owners, employees, as well as their customers were happy the new location was virtually the same as the old. Co-owner Duc Nguyen worked closely with Town officials to take advantage of the programs the Town had to offer. The committed to a grant, a tax abatement (through the Enterprise Zone Program) and partial Building Permit Waiver benefits.
The 12,500 square foot building at 19 Hamden Park Drive was a perfect match. The summer of 2003 saw the former home of a machine shop transformed into the much cleaner environment needed for electronic assembly.
The property is part of the Hamden Business Park, home to over 30 companies in Highwood. The Town most recently completed a new archway identification sign in the Park and plans to complete streetscape improvements in the spring of 2004.
