Three-Year Economic Development Plan

On February 4rth, 2005, the Legislative Council approved a new Three-Year economic development plan for the Town. Prepared by the Economic and Community Development Office and approved by the Economic Development Commission, the plan includes strategies intended to foster business expansion and retention and to reduce taxes by increasing the commercial grand list. The primary goals outlined in the plan are as follows:

    • Tax Abatements, grants and building permit waivers for small businesses
    • Small Business Loan Program: Eligible activities include  downpayment assistance for the purchase of Commercial and mixed-use projects, property rehabilitation and the purchase of equipment .
    • Workforce Development Initiatives
    • Goals for expanding the Hamden Business Park and addressing brownfield properties
    • New Hamden Economic Development Corporation
    • Predevelopment Cost Program
    • New Marketing Strategies such as Film Ready and Arts Based Economic Development
    • Neighborhood Revitalization strategies in Highwood and State Street
    • Business Assistance Center for small and start up businesses
    • Web-Site Updates
    • Collaborative Planning Initiatives
    • Commercial Property Maintenance Program
