Hamden’s Memorial Day Parade Marshals Announced

Mayor Scott D. Jackson and the Hamden Veterans Commission are proud to announce the selection of Hamden residents Joe Myjak and Dave Lewis as Grand Marshals for the 78th Annual Memorial Day Parade.

Joseph Myjak is a WWII Veteran who was part of the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944 and will be returning to France in two weeks to commemorate the 70th anniversary of this historic event. He also saw action at the Battle of the Bulge and says with all his military service he never sees himself as a hero. Joe received the French Medal of Honor from Presidents Obama and Sarkozy. He is always available to talk with Hamden students about WWII.

David Lewis spent 28 years in the military serving both in the Navy and Army as a medic. He was stationed in various places around the world including Guam and Bosnia. He has received numerous medals and commendations from both branches for his merit, service and conduct. He is presently a member of Hamden’s C.E.R.T. team and the Veterans’ Commission and works at West Haven Veterans’ Hospital.

The Parade begins at 10 A.M. from Hamden High School and travels down Dixwell Avenue to the reviewing stand in front of the Government Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 A.M. at the Veterans’

Monument in front of the Hamden Middle School.
