Traffic Department

The Traffic Department is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various transportation and safety systems operating throughout the Town. The Traffic Department operates and maintains 80 signalized intersections in town. The Traffic Department also constructs or reconstructs new signal systems as conditions warrant. The Traffic Department maintains an estimated 9,000 traffic control signs, and an estimated 2,000 street name signs. 

NOTICE OF WEIGHT RESTRICTION ON TODD ST.

Effective September 1st, 2021  trucks over 14,000lbs or 7 tons are restricted from traveling on Todd St.

NOTICE OF WEIGHT RESTRICTION ON Connolly Parkway

Effective October 12, 2022 trucks over 58,000 lbs or 29 tons are restricted from traveling on Connolly Parkway, due to a weight restriction on the bridge crossing of Connolly Parkway over the Mill River. 

NOTICE OF WEIGHT RESTRICTION ON Sanford Street

Effective January 10, 2023 trucks over 17 tons are restricted from traveling on Sanford Street due to a weight restriction on the bridge crossing of Sanford Street over the Shepard Brook.

Painting

The Traffic Department is also responsible for the painting of approximately: 

  • 80 miles of roadway centerline
  • 97 arrows
  • 370 stop bars
  • 400 crosswalks
  • 1,000 parking stalls. 

Transit Operations

The Department is also responsible for transit operations, with its 186 bus stops and 33 bus shelters, and the maintenance of three municipal parking lots.
