[ARCHIVED] Assessor's Notice: Elderly/Totally Disabled Homeowners Tax Relief Program

The Hamden Government Center is currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

To All Current Elderly/Disabled Benefit Residents:

In accordance to Executive Order 7S issued (as of April 2nd, 2020) by Governor Ned Lamont enacting a special revision to the standard reapplication process for the Elderly/Totally Disabled Homeowners Tax Relief Program:

The Hamden Assessor’s Office will conduct an automatic application renewal for all qualified elderly and disabled residents, who are currently on the homeowner’s benefits programs and are scheduled to reapply this year (i.e. 2019 tax year).  If you applied for the benefit for tax year 2017 you will be automatically qualified for the upcoming tax year. You will not have to reapply until February 15, 2022 (the 2021 Grand List).


To All New Elderly/Disabled Benefit Applicants by the May 15th deadline:

Please go to the Assessor’s page on the Town of Hamden’s Website for the M 35H application.  You must mail the completed application along with the following:

1) Copies of your FEDERAL TAX RETURN (if you have completed one)

2) ALL original 1099’s, W2’s, Pension & Retirement proof of income as well as any miscellaneous     income (Any relief income from 2020 COVID-19 should not be included)

Please complete all of the highlighted sections on the application and include a valid phone number.   Once we have processed your application we will then mail you a form to sign and return, (must be returned in order to eligible for the exemption).  Please remit your completed application and all necessary documentation by May 15th, 2020 to:

To All New Elderly/Disabled Benefit Applicants Who Cannot File By The May 15th Deadline:

If you are a NEW FILER and you need to apply AFTER the May 15th deadline, you must submit a request in writing for an extension for additional application time, on or before the May 15th, 2020 deadline date. The request for an extension of time must be submitted to the Office of Policy Management (OPM), Hartford, CT, on or before May 15th, 2020.
