The Tax Collector would like to remind those of you who have not yet paid your July 1, 2020 tax bill, that statutory interest of 1 ½ % per month will be charged back to the original due date of 7/1/2020, as usual, for any payment received or postmarked after 10/1/2020, that had a pay by date of the same. This means that as of 10/2/2020, 6 % interest will be added to all unpaid bills. By Connecticut State Statute, the Tax Collector does not have the authority to waive interest for any reason. We do accept partial payments, so if you are unable to pay your bill in full, we encourage you to pay as much as you can on time, as interest would then only be charged on the balance.
As the Government Center is closed to the public, you may pay by mail, online at www.hamden.com, by automated phone system at 844-230-4724 (online and phone systems are not available if back taxes are due for Motor Vehicles), or by utilizing the new outside drop box for check payments only (NO CASH ACCEPTED IN DROP BOX!), which is located just to the right of the front doors to the building. Convenience fees apply to phone and online payments: $.95 flat fee for electronic check payments and 2.95% fee for debit or credit card payments. Money orders can be obtained at many local businesses, including supermarkets, drug stores, the post office, banks and Walmart. All checks should be made payable to Collector of Taxes, Hamden. If a clearance for the DMV is required, please call our office at 203-287-7140 for your total due, and advice on the quickest way to resolve your tax obligation.
Thank you,
Hamden Tax Office
