The Hamden Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about Disaster Preparedness for hazards that may impact their neighborhood and teaches them the basic disaster response skills, such as Fire Safety & Suppression, Search & Rescue, CERT Team Organization, Terrorism Awareness, Disaster Psychology and Medical Triage and Treatment.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT Trainied Individuals can assist others at home, in their locality or workplace following an incident when professional responders are not immediately available to help. Students are also instructed in how to handle every day emergencies at home, school, work, places of worship or in their neighborhood!

Specially Trained CERT Members can support our 1st Responders (Fire & Police) and all town agencies by taking an active role in emergency management and preparedness tasks and by assisting at emergencies or with  logistical support for the several planned community events throughout the year.

When completed, CERT Graduates may join our Hamden Team & choose how they would like to help assist at town events or emergencies!

“What should you do to prepare for a major weather event? Are you ready for any emergency: falls, fractures, flaming frying pans to frozen pipes? We’ll help you learn what to do in any emergency to protect yourself, your family, friends, coworkers and your neighbors!”

The Hamden Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be conducting a Basic 8-Week, 20 Hour Training Course starting in February on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 pm  at the Dunbar Hill Fire Station #8, 420 Dunbar Hill Road in Hamden.

Hamden CERT is now accepting applications for this Free 8-week course that will be conducted once a week, on Thursdays, starting at 6:30 p.m. This course will be open to anyone over the age of 18 who has an interest in protecting themselves, their loved ones, neighbors or co-workers during any emergency when 1st Responders (911) are delayed or cannot get to you, during any uncommon event, or when the volume of calls may hinder their response.

This Free Training will provide you all of the skills and tools needed to be ready for any emergency at home, school or at your workplace. At the completion of your course, you will be more familiar with our local police and fire department operations and have gained your: Nationally Recognized, FEMA CERT Program Certification, that you can be proud of! Also, after completing your training, you may consider being part of the Hamden CERT Program and become a team member. If so, you can choose when, where and how you desire to serve at emergencies, shelters, distribution points, major weather events or any of our many planned community events.

We have something for everyone of any age, who may like to step-up, to help our community!
